Toronto under special weather statement with 5 to 8 cm of snow in store Friday

Snow is in store for Toronto on Friday and it could make roads slippery and travel hazardous, Environment Canada says.
In a special weather statement issued Thursday, the federal weather agency says the city should expect five to eight centimetres of snow starting later Friday morning. At times, it could fall at rates of two to four centimetres an hour.
Visibility will be reduced in areas that get heavy snow.
The snow should dissipate Friday afternoon. It is likely to change to rain showers as temperatures rise above freezing, Environment Canada said.
"Although total snowfall amounts are not expected to be overly significant, the hourly snowfall rates may result in roads and highways becoming quickly snow covered and slippery," the federal weather agency said.
When the temperature falls on Friday night, roads and sidewalks may become icy, Environment Canada said.
"Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions."
