
Tony Humby trial hits scheduled pause, as more court dates may be added

More than three months after it began, the Tony Humby trial is now on a scheduled break, with court proceedings not expected to conclude until next year.
Humby’s trial started on Aug. 27, and has been ongoing intermittently since then. The latest block of court time ended Friday.
Three new court dates have been added in mid-December, and there is a status update expected soon to see if more time can be squeezed in before the end of the year, depending on the availability of defence counsel.
Beyond that, the next scheduled trial dates are in late March.
The Crown had hoped to rest its case this month, but a series of delays meant that didn’t happen.
However, progress has been made.
All 10 living complainants have now completed their testimony.
The 11th died last year. The Crown planned to have an application heard this past week to have their prior statements to police entered as evidence.
But an unexpected delay led to the schedule being juggled and that matter remains pending.
Also looming is a so-called Jordan application that could see the charges tossed altogether because of unreasonable trial delays.
Humby’s ongoing trial relates to 72 counts of sexual violence involving 11 youths.
He faces an additional 17 charges on top of that. Those include:
