Today at IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals will seal the final playoffs spot if they manage to beat bottom-placed Mumbai Indians on Saturday. If Rishabh Pant's men lose, Royal Challengers Bangalore will head to the playoffs.
The equation is simple when Delhi Capitals meet Mumbai Indians in their final league games of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, May 21 as Rishabh Pant's men have their fate in their own hands. A win against the 5-time champions will help Delhi progress to their third successive playoffs.
DC are tied on 14 points with Royal Challengers Bangalore, who will be waiting nervously, backing Mumbai Indians to help their chances. If DC win on Saturday, they will get to 16 points and book a date with Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis joked on Thursday that Mumbai Indians will have their backing on Saturday. RCB defeated Gujarat Titans, riding on a Kohli special, in their final league game but it didn't assure them their berth in the playoffs.
DC will look to leapfrog RCB into the final 4. Pant's men had been bogged down by Covid-19 concerns, leading to inconsistency. Notably, their win over Punjab Kings on May 16 was the first time they won two matches on the bounce.
Mumbai Indians, who have nothing to gain from their final league game, will be hoping to finish their campaign on a good note. The 5-time champions are all but assured of the wooden spoon.
Notably, captain Rohit Sharma had said earlier this week that the players on the bench will be given opportunities in their final game and it remains to be seen if Arjun Tendulkar gets a game finally.
