Today at IPL 2022, KKR vs LSG: With fate in their own hands, Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata hope to go big or go home
India Today
KKR are set to play their final match of the group stage in the IPL. While their journey has not been fruitful, they will hope for a big finish to honour their outgoing coach Brendon McCullum.
Here we are, in the final match of the group stage for Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants. The teams have had contrasting fortunes in the Indian Premier League this season. While LSG made a place in the top two positions in the league table at the start of the season, KKR dwindled at the bottom three. However, when push came to shove, KKR shook the dust off of themselves and got to business, recording huge wins to their name. On the other hand, Lucknow have faltered in the final few matches and are struggling to get a momentum going into the playoffs.
For KKR, it is quite simple. Not only do you have to win, you have to win by a huge margin to trump Delhi Capitals’ NRR. They will also have to hope that DC and Royal Challengers Bangalore lose their final games, for them to make an entry to the playoffs.
For Lucknow, it is rather simple. They are well placed to qualify for one of the four places, however, that is not assured yet. A huge loss for them and a huge win for either RCB or DC can still throw them out from the top four. So there is no chance for them to be complacent.
Ajinkya Rahane has been forced to cut his IPL short after tearing a tendon against SunRisers Hyderabad and it is possible that he will not be part of any cricket for the next one and half months. In that case, KKR might play Baba Indrajith.
Ajinkya Rahane is going to miss the remaining games of #IPL2022 due to a hamstring injury. Wish you a speedy recovery, @ajinkyarahane88. The Knights camp will miss you #AmiKKR #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/aHDYmkE2f0
