A special team of the Tambaram Prohibition Enforcement wing arrested three persons on charges of smuggling ganja near Pallavaram on Monday (December 23, 2024).
A senior official of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate said they received information that a gang was planning to distribute ganja on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road. A police team was deputed to the area on Monday evening for patrolling, and they found three persons, two men and a woman, moving in a suspicious manner. When they were interrogated near the Pallavaram Periya Eri, the police team found more than 22 kg of ganja in their possession. They were reportedly planning to sell it to customers.
The police identified the three accused as B. Bishraba Balvarsingh, N. Chandan Baliarsingh, and N. Anjana Digal, hailing from Odisha. The three persons were arrested under two sections of the NDPS Act and sent to prison.

The Union and State governments provided support in several ways to the needy people, but private institutions should also extend help, especially to those requiring medical assistance, said C.P. Rajkumar, Managing Director, Nalam Multispeciality Hospital, here on Saturday. Speaking at a function to honour Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan and neurologist S. Meenakshisundaram with C. Palaniappan Memorial Award for their contribution to society and Nalam Kappom medical adoption of Type-1 diabetic children, he said the governments implemented numerous welfare programmes, but the timely help by a private hospital or a doctor in the neighbourhood to the people in need would go a long way in safeguarding their lives.
