Three men arrested for stealing 60 laptops from the University of Hyderabad; all items recovered by police.
The Gachibowli police have arrested three persons in connection with the theft of 60 laptops from the premises of C.R. Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS) at the University of Hyderabad. The theft reportedly took place on Sunday night, and a case was registered on Monday (February 16) under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused were identified as 30-year-old Regula Chandra Shekar, a resident of Kukatpally and a native of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh, 19-year-old Sai Charan, a student, and 19-year-old Ashwin Rao, a student.
According to the police, the accused were familiar with the campus layout and security patterns. They allegedly entered the premises unlawfully during late night hours and removed 60 laptops from the institute with the intention of selling them for wrongful gain.
Police said all 60 laptops were recovered along with three mobile phones and two cars bearing registration numbers TS 15 FP 7697 and TG 11 C 3963. The seized property will be handed over to the concerned authorities after completion of legal formalities.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody. The investigation involved analysis of CCTV footage and technical evidence, and special teams were formed to trace and apprehend the suspects.
