Thousands without power across Queens County
CBC
Thousands of Maritime Electric customers in multiple communities across Queens County are without power Saturday morning.
The utility said in a Facebook post it has identified the cause of the outage affecting customers in Clyde River, Rice Point, Canoe Cove, Emyvale, Riverdale, Kingston and surrounding areas.
In an updated post around noon Saturday, the utility said crews estimate all power to be restored near 1 p.m., with a brief five-minute outage to complete repairs around 2 p.m.
As of early afternoon, over 3,000 customers were without power, down from more than 6,000 earlier in the day, according to the Maritime Electric outage map.

With its emergency shelter beds frequently running at 50 per cent over capacity and demand so great that it's forced to refer some women escaping domestic violence elsewhere, Gillian's Place in St. Catharines will soon be able to offer a broader range of services to more victims of gender-based violence.
