The Hindu Lit for Life 2025 Mobile Library flagged off

Flagged off by the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner, the Lit For Life Mobile Library promotes reading joy among residents.
Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran flagged off the Lit For Life Mobile Library on Tuesday (December 31, 2024) at The Hindu office. The initiative, started ahead of The Hindu Lit for Life 2025 is set to promote the joy of reading among Chennai residents.
As part of the annual pre-festival celebration, two mobile libraries have been launched with books donated by the readers from across the city. This year, the focus is on children’s literature and at the end, these books will be distributed to the underprivileged children in schools.
“We believe this is an important aspect of The Hindu’s Lit for Life festival, whereby we spread the habit of reading across communities and the city of Chennai,” said Nirmala Lakshman, Chairperson of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited. She added that the mobile vans will be parked in places where children can spend quality time with books.
The mobile library vans were stationed at Elliot’s beach and Marina beach on Tuesday. In the coming weeks, the van will visit various locations across Chennai including Dhandeeswaran temple, Bougainvillea Park, Chennai Trade Centre, Anna University, Guindy National Park, VR Mall, Anna Nagar Metro station, Thiru.Vi.Ka park, Arignar Anna Zoological Park on Thursday and Friday.
On the weekend, the vans will be stationed at TNHB site park, Kallikuppam park, Sathyabama University, TI Cycles cricket ground, TCS, Sam Mahal, Infosys, Ambattur OT bus stand, Velachery Railway station, Independence Day park, Prashanth Hospital, Loyola College, Women’s Christian College, Alsa Mall, and Thiruvanmiyur beach.
In the following week, this initiative will continue in prominent locations including Anna Walkers Park in Kodambakkam, SKY city apartment, Tidel park, Madras Christian College, D.G. Vaishnav College, Arupadai Veedu Murugan temple, Bharathwajeswarar temple and others.
The 6a.m. to 6p.m. mobile libraries will be stationed for three hours at each venue, letting people experience a variety of books and donate their own.
