The Ashes 2nd Test: Joe Root was struck in the abdomen during warm-up at the Adelaide Oval was assessed by the England medical team, thus resulting in him missing almost the first one and a half hours of the first session of Day 4.

England captain Joe Root missed nearly the first one and a half hours of the first session of Day 4 of the second Ashes Test after sustaining an injury during the warm-up. A team spokesman said that Root was hit in the abdomen by a throwdown in the nets on Sunday ahead of the start of the day's play.

All-rounder Ben Stokes could be seen moving the field around in Root's absence. England ended up taking three wickets in that period, including those of premier Australia batters David Warner and captain Steve Smith.
