Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) National General Secretary Nidhi Thripathi and 34 others were arrested on Monday, February 14, for trying to protest in front of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s residence over Thanjavur student suicide case.
The incident shocked the CM security personnel, who were taken by surprise.
ABVP National General Secretary Nithi Tripathi stated that even after the case was handed over to the CBI, Tamilnadu Government was not cooperating and demanded justice for the student who alleged that she died due to forced conversion pressure.
On Monday, February 14, the Supreme Court upheld the Madras HC’s decision to transfer the Thanjavur student suicide case to the CBI. The Director general of police (DGP), Tamil Nadu, had filed a plea challenging the HC’s decision to transfer the case to the CBI.
The SC told the Tamil Nadu government not to make the case a prestige issue by challenging the HC’s order for a CBI probe. It further instructed the TN police to handover all the evidence collected until now to the CBI.
The apex court also made it clear to the CBI that they should probe the allegations of forced conversion.
