Telangana inaugurates a De-Addiction Centre and LINAC cancer care services to enhance health support and treatment in Hyderabad.
A De-Addiction Centre of Excellence (CoE) was inaugurated by Telangana Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) in Erragadda on Tuesday.
The CoE is designed to offer a comprehensive range of services including medical treatment, counselling and rehabilitation support for individuals struggling with substance abuse. The initiative aims to help affected individuals recover, rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
Highlighting the growing concern over substance abuse, particularly among young people, the Minister said the increasing consumption of drugs and intoxicants poses a serious threat. He noted that addiction not only disrupts individual lives but also has wider social consequences, impacting families and communities. It can lead to health complications, psychological instability, financial distress and broader social issues, he added.
Earlier in the day, the Minister also inaugurated Linear Accelerator (LINAC) services at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences. A LINAC is an advanced medical device used in cancer treatment that delivers high-energy radiation beams precisely to tumours while minimising damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
The Minister said the introduction of LINAC services would enhance cancer care in the State by enabling more precise treatment and improving outcomes within a shorter duration.
