Tamil writers ‘not surprised’ at DU’s decision to remove their works

The Delhi University has removed works of Sukirtharani and Bama from its BA English (Hons) syllabus.
The Delhi University’s decision to remove certain works by two Tamil writers, Sukirtharani and Bama — whose works on Dalit women and their struggles have been celebrated by literary world — has caused uproar among sections of the progressive and intellegenstia in Tamil Nadu and rest of India. Speaking to The Hindu, Ms. Sukirtharani, whose works Kaimaru (recompense) and En Udal (My Body) speak about injustices faced by oppressed women, said that she was “not surprised at all” by the decision taken by the University to omit her works.Leaders and legislators hailing from Ballari, which is part of the Kalyana Karnataka region, seem to be a source of much political upheaval in Karnataka, going by recent history. This has been the case since the time illegal mining hit national and international headlines in the 2000s and the place gained reputation as “Republic of Ballari”.
