T20 World Cup 2022: India will be fired up when facing Pakistan, says Adam Gilchrist

T20 World Cup 2022: The ICC announced the fixtures for this year's T20 showpiece event and India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the MCG on October 23.

Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist said on Friday that India will be fired up when they take on Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. The International Cricket Council (ICC) earlier in the day announced the fixtures for the showpiece event, which will be played between October 16 and November 13.

India will begin their campaign against Pakistan in the Super 12 Group B at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23 before going on to face South Africa, Bangladesh and two qualifiers from their group.

It's going to be a repeat of the 2021 T20 World Cup as India and Pakistan met in their tournament opener in Dubai. India were hammered by 10 wickets as Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan gunned down a 152-run target with an unbeaten opening stand.

India were never able to recover from the defeat as they were thrashed by New Zealand in their 2nd Super 12 game. India crashed out of the T20 World Cup without managing to reach the knockout stages of an ICC event for the first time since 2012.

"Huge rivalry. We all know about that. India will be particularly fired up given what happened back in November where Pakistan registered a 10-wicket victory. So, the rivalry just grows and what a venue to have," Gilchrist told Star Sports.

Pakistan won their first-ever World Cup match against India last year and progressed to the semi-final only to lose to eventual champions Australia.
