Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Friday (February 21, 2025) said the Tamil Nadu government has renewed the lease agreement for 90 acres of land in Paiyanur in Kelambakkam with the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council, Nadigar Sangam, and Television Actors’ Association. A new Government Order (G.O.) has been passed to this effect.
Mr. Udhayanidhi said a G.O. had been passed in 2010 during former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s tenure to lease 90 acres of land in Paiyanur near Kelambakkam for ₹1,000 per acre for 99 years.
“During Kalaignar’s tenure, the land was leased to benefit the members of FEFSI, TFPC, Nadigar Sangam, and small screen actors associations. A G.O. was also passed. According to the G.O., they should have started using the land after taking up construction within the first three years. However, it was delayed,” he said.
Mr. Udhayanidhi said representatives of various film bodies had approached the Chief Minister and himself in person over the matter. “We have passed a new G.O. and decided to renew the lease agreement. The market value of the land could be approximately ₹150 crore. The members of the associations can construct multi-storied buildings,” he said.
