Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the 127th annual flower show at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG) in Udhagamandalam on Thursday (May 15, 2025), enthralling visitors who thronged the garden, hoping to catch a glimpse of him.

The summer festival season’s marquee event will take place over 11 days this year, till May 25. Mr. Stalin, who was accompanied by members of his family, was given a tour of the floral arrangements, the highlights of which centred around showcasing themes of Tamil royalty.
According to the district administration, more than 1.3 lakh flowers were used in the construction of an exhibit resembling a castle facade, which is 70 feet long and 20 feet high. Furthermore, more than two lakh carnations, roses, and chrysanthemums were used in the construction of a ‘royal castle’, measuring 75 feet in length and 25 feet in height. Additionally, more than 50,000 flowers were used to create a ‘divine swan’, while a throne of flowers was also an exhibit, where Mr. Stalin posed for pictures.
Other exhibits included floral arrangements made to resemble a swing, musical instruments, and animals, such as elephants and tigers. Mr. Stalin also inaugurated the newly renovated Fern House at the GBG.
He then inspected the various stalls that had been set up as part of the flower show and visited the Italian garden at the GBG. Cultural events had been organised as part of the inauguration, with Bharthanatyam performances as well as performances by the Tibetan community in the Nilgiris. Traditional dances were also performed by members of the Badaga community and Adivasi groups belonging to the Toda and Kota tribes.
Also present at the event was Nilgiris Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha, and top officials from the Forest department and the Nilgiris district administration.
Mr. Stalin is expected to leave the Nilgiris on Friday (May 16, 2025).
