T.N. Assembly election: Palaniswami, Duraimurugan, among those who filed their nominations on the final day

Candidates from AIADMK, DMK, and BJP filed nominations on the final day for Tamil Nadu's Assembly election ahead of April 23.
AIADMK general secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and DMK general secretary and senior Minister Duraimurugan were among those from the two Dravidian parties, who filed their nomination on Monday, on the last day for filing nominations for the Assembly election. Mr. Palaniswami filed his nomination from Edappadi constituency, while Mr. Duraimurugan filed his from the Katpadi constituency.
Union Minister of State and former BJP Tamil Nadu unit president L. Murugan filed his nomination from Avanashi (Reserved) constituency. Former AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam has filed his nomination as the DMK candidate in Bodinayakanur constituency. BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran filed his nomination from Sattur in Virudhunagar district. Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan (BJP) filed her nomination from Mylapore in Chennai. TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai filed his nomination in Sriperumbudur.
DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant filed her nomination from Vriddhachalam in Cuddalore district. As of 7.30 p.m. on Monday, the details of nominations filed by over 5,500 candidates in all 234 constituencies were uploaded by the Election Commission of India in its portal. Going by the figures in the portal, over 4,500 men candidates, over 1,000 women candidates and one candidate from the third gender have filed their nominations.
As of 7.30 p.m. on Monday, 108 nominations were received in the Karur Assembly constituency. Besides the AIADMK candidate, who filed three nominations and the two DMK candidates (including a dummy candidate), who have filed two nominations each, 101 candidates have filed their nominations in Karur. In Salem (West), 51 nominations have been received, and in Paramathi-Velur constituency, 50 nominations were received.
The details of nominations received in the constituencies are being uploaded, and the total number of candidates who have filed nominations is likely to be finalised on Tuesday. The nominations received in all the 234 Assembly constituencies will be taken up for scrutiny on Tuesday. The last day for withdrawal of candidates, if any, is April 9.
