CBC
Downtown streets are closed and building are being evacuated after thick white steam was seen pouring from a business Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to York Street, just west of Clarence Street shortly after 2 p.m. to what fire officials are saying was a large steam line that has been compromised.
Steam could be seen billowing from a business adjacent to Call the Office, a downtown London landmark, and across from the VIA Rail train station.
Police have set up a perimeter and closed the intersection of York and Wellington Streets, along with Dundas and Clarence Streets. They said surrounding buildings were also being evacuated as a precaution.
There is no word on what caused the steam line to burst, or if there are any injuries.
More to come.

Sarnia City Council will hold a special meeting Tuesday morning to respond to social media comments made by Coun. Bill Dennis, who criticized city spending on a new mural by Indigenous artist Kennady Osborne as “virtue signalling by woke politicians” — then made a series of comments in response to a reply from Aamjiwnaang Chief Janelle Nahmabin that some have characterized as unprofessional and aggressive.
