In a fresh bout of violence, a day after hostilities were reported from Rajasthan's Jodhpur, stones were thrown at the police in the Jalori Gate area of the city this morning. To maintain control of the scene, the police resorted to lathi-charge.

At the Balmukund Bissa circle at the Jalori Gate intersection in Rajasthan's Jodhpur, a conflict began over the hoisting of a flag atop a freedom fighter's statue. It soon devolved into stone-pelting, injuring many. Internet services were suspended in the district following the clashes. Stone-pelting was reported till 3 pm.
The dispute started over the removal of a Hindu flag and the installation of a Muslim flag at the Jalori Gate intersection. A banner was also put up near Jalori circle along with a loudspeaker.
According to reports, after the flag was placed on the statue of freedom fighter Bal Mukund Bissa and an Eid banner was set out on the circle in Jalori, members of one community began raising slogans.
The flag and banner were removed by the demonstrators, sparking a commotion. Members of the opposing community were enraged, and fights broke out between the two groups.
“There were flags of Lord Parashuram near the area where namaaz is offered. There was a dispute about removing the flags as the local Muslim community puts up a flag on the occasion of Eid,” Additional Director General (Law and Order) Hawa Singh Ghumaria told India Today TV.
