Stage set for the launch pilot project of Bhu Bharati portal on April 14

Bhu Bharati, the new land records management portal replacing Dharani, set to launch with improved features and efficiency.

The stage is all set for the launch of the Bhu Bharati, the ambitious land records management portal replacing Dharani, on Monday (April 14, 2025).

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally launch the portal and Bhu Bharati App on August 14, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birthday, after which it will be accessible to the people to verify the status of their lands. The State Government will start a pilot project in three mandals of three different districts to study the operational efficacy of the new portal along with addressing the grievances raised by landowners in these mandals.

Teams headed by the Mandal Revenue Officers will branch out into the villages in the pilot mandals collecting applications in writing from people affected by the lapses in Dharani. Thereafter, the officials concerned will conduct field verification of the applications submitted, match them with the available records and issue papers that will be uploaded into Bhu Bharati portal. “It is decided to implement the project on pilot basis to identify the efficacy of the new software as also to see whether there are any operational issues in the new portal,” Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said.

The pilot project will be based on the rules and guidelines framed by the Government after an elaborate exercise spanning three months since the enactment of Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights) Act, 2025. Once the problems, if any, in the new portal are addressed, it will start full-fledged functioning before June 2, the State formation day. The launch of the pilot project would be followed by awareness campaigns at different levels to educate the people about the highlights of the new legislation and instilling confidence in the land owners that their rights would be protected.

Explaining the salient features of the Bhu Bharati portal, the Minister said the new portal will have six modules instead of 33 in the Dharani. Steps have been taken to see that necessary mechanisms have been put in place to make the new system user friendly and tamper proof. The portal would have details of the 18 lakh acre, six lakh acres belonging to the Government and its agencies and another 12 lakh acre private land and steps would be initiated soon to resolve the issues pertaining to these lands.

Mr. Srinivas Reddy admitted that the Dharani portal could not be removed altogether as of now. Accordingly, it was decided to float tenders shortly seeking interested firms with experience in the subject to upgrade the software of the new portal with latest technologies for making it fool proof.

Meanwhile, CM A. Revanth Reddy has asked the officials concerned to take steps to design Bhu Bharati portal in such a manner that even laymen could understand the provisions and use it effectively. The new land record management system had been designed to ensure that land related issues are addressed for the next 100 years. Accordingly, steps should be taken to incorporate latest technologies for operationalising the portal.
