St. Joe's closes kidney unit after 2 patients test positive for COVID-19

St. Joe's has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in its specialized unit for kidney disease after two patients tested positive for the illness.
St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton issued a news release Sunday, saying there was an outbreak in the nephrology unit at the Charlton campus. Now the unit is closed to admissions.
Hamilton Public Health is doing contact tracing, in conjunction with the St. Joe's infection prevention and control and occupational health and safety teams.
"All COVID-19 protocols are in place, making the risk of transmission low," St. Joe's said in a news release.
Overall, Hamilton reported 19 new cases of COVID-19 Friday. The number of known active cases is 206.
Since the start of the pandemic, 24,756 people have contracted COVID-19.
Of those, 94.7 per cent have recovered, while 415 people have died.
