Oshada Fernando has replaced Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka after the latter tested positive midway through the 2nd Test match.
Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka has tested positive for Covid-19 midway through the game. This comes as a big jolt to Sri Lanka’s hopes of winning the second Test match after getting in a commanding position at the end of the moving day (Day 3) with a 67-run lead having four wickets in hand.
Nissanka was subjected to a rapid-antigen test after complaining about not feeling well on Sunday, and he was pulled away from the game after testing positive for the infection.
Oshada Fernando, who replaced Angelo Mathews in the first Test match, will play in this Test match as well.Fernando is the first ever player to be drafted as a Covid-19 substitute in back to back matches.
Sri Lanka Cricket association broke the news over their social media handle, stating that the player was found unwell on Sunday morning.
"Pathum Nissanka has tested positive for Covid-19. He was found to be positive during an Antigen test conducted on the player yesterday morning, following the player complaining of feeling unwell,” the statement said.
