The Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by B.K. Singh, Additional Director-General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), began its probe into the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede incident on Saturday.
Multiple officers fanned out across various locations, including the stadium. They collected CCTV footage, looked at the police records and that of stakeholders on applications made, permissions given and rejected, if any, for various celebratory events held in the city on June 4.
There FIRs registered by the Cubbon Park police in connection with the stampede case, including a suo motu case, listing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, event management firm DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as accused, have been taken over by the SIT for probe.
However, the SIT is not limiting itself to probing the role of these listed suspects, but is also looking into the role of the city police and other decision makers involved.
The SIT is reviewing security deployment, the locations of senior police officials during the events, among other details, sources said.
