Shahrukh Khan will do very well for Indian team when he gets the opportunity: Dinesh Karthik

India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik believes that Tamil Nadu power-hitter M Shahrukh Khan is within touching distance from making his India debut.

Veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik feels that Tamil Nadu batter, Shahrukh Khan, is within touching distance of making it to the Indian squad and is confident the youngster will make it count whenever the chance comes.

Shahrukh played a huge part in Tamil Nadu's victorious campaign and will be joining the Indian white-ball team as a stand-by player for the three T20Is in Kolkata between February 16-20.

Shahrukh has been in the news this season for scoring runs at critical stages, including a last-ball six against Karnataka, to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. Similarly, against the same opponents in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final, he smashed 79 off 39 balls and his contribution in the final against HP was 42 off 21 balls.

Karthik was full of praise for his domestic side Tamil Nadu for regularly producing quality cricketers many of whom have gone on to represent India.

"I think, obviously, one of the greatest pleasures for me is to see all these boys go on to represent the country. They all have two ambitions -- either they want to be a part of the IPL franchise and the next step would be to play for the country. That comes with good performances. Tamil Nadu, as a domestic side, has done so well. Last year, 14 of the players were part of IPL teams and I was so happy to see those things happening," Karthik was quoted as saying by ANI.

"Shahrukh Khan is knocking on the doors, he is very close and he is within touching distance. I have no doubt that when he gets the opportunity, he will do very well for Team India," Karthik further added.
