
Several cancellations at Toronto airports due to winter storm conditions

Flights on Sunday at Pearson International Airport and Billy Bishop Airport have been impacted by the winter weather, with travellers being urged to check their flight status before arriving at the airport.
About 59 per cent of Pearson International Airport's departing flights over the next 24 hours have been cancelled as of 9:26 a.m. Sunday, according to the airport’s website.
Meanwhile, 61 per cent of flights arriving to Toronto on Sunday have also been cancelled.
Crews are actively clearing the airfield and all departing flights are undergoing de-icing procedures, said Pearson International Airport on social media.
According to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s website, 23 departing flights and 22 arriving flights have been cancelled on Sunday.
Environment Canada has issued a severe orange weather warning for a snowstorm that will bring up to 40 centimetres of snow across the Greater Toronto Area.
Residents are being warned of dangerous travel conditions, including the possibility of near-zero visibility at times.
All library branches are closed and recreation programs at schools are cancelled in Toronto due to the heavy snow, said the city.
It said city pools remain open on Sunday morning.
The Toronto District School Board said on social media that all permits for school usage on Sunday have been cancelled.
The University of Toronto's Mississauga campus was closed Sunday due to the hazardous conditions.
Crews will be working around the clock to clear streets, sidewalks and bike lanes, said the city on social media, adding residents should avoid all non-essential travel.
"Get groceries and medications earlier in the day, if possible and only if you have to," it said.
Across the city, 48 bus stops are not in service to avoid the risk of buses getting stuck in the heavy snow, according to the TTC’s website.
