‘Selfish knock?’ Shubman Gill shuts down trolls after match-winning 49-ball 63 for GT vs LSG

IPL 2022, LSG vs GT: Shubman Gill hit a patient 63 from 49 balls that helped Gujarat Titans post 144 in 20 overs. Hardik Pandya's men successfully defended the total, bowling out Lucknow Super Giants for just 82 in 13.5 overs on Tuesday.

Don't judge a pitch until both teams have batted on it is a popular saying in cricket. On Tuesday, Gujarat Titans huffed and puffed to 144 in their quota of 20 overs in IPL 2022 Match 57 against Lucknow Super Giants. Questions were asked as to why Gujarat were not able to be more proactive despite having lost only 4 wickets throughout their innings.

Shubman Gill carried his bat, scoring a steady 49-ball 63 even as the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Hardik Pandya and Matthew Wade failed to get going. Gill hit only 7 boundaries as his knock of 63 saw him run hard between the wickets on Wednesday at the MCA Stadium, which has seen plenty of high-scoring games so far in the season.

Notably, Gill batted through the innings without scoring a six, becoming the only 2nd batter after Sachin Tendulkar in 2009 to do so. David Miller (24 from 22) and Rahul Tewatia (22 from 16 not out) gave Gujarat a bit of impetus at the end.

144 looked to be an ordinary total on a pitch that was certainly two-paced but Gujarat Titans successfully defended the target. Hardik Pandya's men bowled out Lucknow for just 82 in 13.5 overs and clinched a big 62-run victory.

Gujarat spinner Rashid Khan picked up his career-best figures in the IPL -- 4/24 while left-arm pacer Yash Dayal and left-spinner Sai Kishore, on IPL debut, picked up 2 wickets each.

Only after Lucknow batters' struggle on the pitch, the value of Gill's knock came to the forefront. The young India opener held the Gujarat innings together, not allowing a collapse like the one that Lucknow suffered.

A section of fans were quick to judge Gill's knock and even called it 'selfish'. The young opener took to social media after his match-winning knock and shut down his critics.
