
Second CBI team arrives in Mumbai to probe charges of corruption against Anil Deshmukh

Two teams of the CBI are in Mumbai to probe allegations of corruption levelled against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh by ex-Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh.
A second team of the CBI arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday to probe allegations of corruption against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh. This comes a day after the Central Bureau of Investigation initiated an inquiry into the matter. Nearly half a dozen officers from CBI led by a Superintendent of Police (SP) rank officer will be recording statements in connection with the case, sources told India Today. In a letter to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, former Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh had accused Anil Deshmukh of corruption.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
