Indian Premier League: Rajasthan Royals’ director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara has backed Sanju Samson’s decision to deny the strike to Chris Morris for the final delivery of the chase.

Rajasthan Royals required 5 runs off 2 balls when captain Sanju Samson, on strike, has the chance to take a single and pass on the strike to Chris Morris who was on 2 off 4 at that point. However, Samson on 119 off 61 refused to take the single as Morris was not set on the field yet and decided to face the last ball himself. Sanju Samson, who was always vocal about his excited to work closely with the franchise’s new Director of Cricket, has been backed by Kumar Sangakkara in his decision. The wicketkeeper-batsman was appointed captain after the franchise released Steve Smith from the squad. However, Sanju Samson lost his wicket on the last delivery while trying to go all the way for a six and RR lost the game to Punjab Kings by 4 runs on Monday (April 12).
