IPL 2022, RR vs LSG: 25-year-old Kuldeep Sen, playing his first IPL match, defended 15 runs against a rampaging Marcus Stoinis to help Rajasthan Royals beat Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai on Sunday.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson on Sunday heaped rich praise on young Kuldeep Sen wh successfully defended 15 runs in the final over of a thrilling chase against a rampaging Marcus Stoinis as Lucknow Super Giants fell short of a 166-run target by 4 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022.

Sanju Samson entrusted the 25-year-old, playing his first match in the IPL, with the huge responsibility of bowling the final over even as Marcus Stoinis went on a six-hitting spree, giving Lucknow an outside chance after they were reduced to 126/8 in the 18th over after a stunning new-ball burst from Trent Boult and a 4-wicket haul from Yuzvendra Chahal.

RR vs LSG, IPL 2022: Report | Highlights

Stoinis was looking set to pull off an incredible chase after taking 19 runs in the penultimate over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. However, young Kuldeep maintained his calm and bowled as many as 3 dot balls at Stoinis in the final over to finish off the contest.

Lauding Kuldeep's ability, Samson said the Madhya Pradesh pacer had impressed him with his ability to nail wide yorkers and the way he had bowled his first 3 overs gave the kipper the confidence to give him the final over.

"It (giving him the last over) depends upon how he bowled his first three overs. I thought he had done really well and had the confidence to bowl those wide yorkers. Whatever I saw in Syed Mushtaq Ali, after that Royals picked him up. He is a special talent, can be for India soon," Samson said.

Kuldeep, 25, has played 16 first-class matches for Madhya Pradesh, 5 List-A games and a total of 15 T20Is so far in his nascent career. He was bought for his base price of Rs 20 lakh.
