CBC
When it comes to Hamilton readers' favourite library books of 2025, romance and mysteries are in close competition.
Top 10 adult books include both romance novels like The Wedding People and One Golden Summer and mystery thrillers such as The Crash and Paranoia.
The biggest hit was The Grey Wolf, a murder mystery by Canadian author Louise Penny, says Hamilton Public Library's collections staff. It's the most circulated adult fiction book of 2025.
The novel was published in October 2024, followed a year later by The Black Wolf — the next book in the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series.
The library releases its list of most popular reads annually that ranks adult, teen and children's books, as well as non-print materials like DVDs and CDs.
The 1967 rock album Buffalo Springfield – Again was the most borrowed CD, followed by Now That's What I Call Jukebox Classics released in 2024 and a number of Taylor Swift albums.
When it came to DVDs, Gladiator II was the most borrowed, followed by Moana 2 and Wicked.
Hamilton author Pasha Malla's novel All You Can Kill was also a popular pick — ranking fourth in adult books and second in eBooks.
The only non-fiction book to make the top 10 list for both eBooks and adult books was The Let Them Theory: A Life-Changing Tool that Millions of People Can't Stop Talking About by Mel Robbins, who also hosts the popular podcast bearing her name.
