Rohit Sharma on Wednesday surpassed Virat Kohli to become India's second most successful T20I captain after the team defeated Hong Kong in the Asia Cup.

Rohit Sharma has surpassed Virat Kohli as India's second most successful captain in the T20I format after the win against Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Sharma had taken up the full-time T20I captaincy after Kohli stepped down following India's early exit from last year's T20 World Cup. The Indian opener has so far been impressive with his decisions on the field and they reflect in his record as well.

Sharma achieved the feat by winning his 31st T20I as the skipper of the team in his 37th outing. Kohli has achieved 30 wins from his 50 matches as the India captain. The man leading the list at the moment is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has helped India win 41 T20I matches under his captaincy from 72 matches.

India took on Hong Kong on Wednesday, with a spot in Super Fours up for grabs. While the Indian batters got off to a slow start, Kohli and Syuryakumar Yadav provided the fireworks at the end to ensure that the team reached a commanding total of 192 runs for the loss of two wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

In response, Hong Kong didn't look like they were in the game as the Indian spinner kept a check on things and ensured that the team won by 40 runs in the end and qualified for the Super Fours.

Sharma commented on the win at the end and expressed his happiness with the performance of the team on the day. However, he said that the team could have done a little better with the ball as the pacers leaked a lot of runs.
