Rohit Sharma overtakes Martin Guptill to become leading run-scorer in T20 Internationals

India in West Indies: Rohit Sharma went past New Zealand opener Martin Guptill to become the leading run-scorer in men's T20 Internationals.

Rohit Sharma overtook Martin Guptill of New Zealand to become the leading run-scorer in men's T20 Internationals. Rohit needed 21 runs before the start of the first T20I against West Indies to go past Guptill.

Rohit Sharma also holds the record for most T20 International hundreds. In 129 matches in the shortest format for India, Rohit Sharma has scored 4 hundred and 26 half-centuries so far. Martin Guptill, who has played 116 matches for New Zealand, has so far scored 3399 runs, including 2 hundred and 20 half-centuries.

WI vs IND 1st T20I Live Score and Updates

Virat Kohli is the third highest scorer in men's T20 Internationals with 3308 runs from 99 matches, but he is yet to score a hundred. However, he has hit the 30 fifties in the shortest format. Kohli, who is going through a poor run of form, was rested for the ODI and T20I series against West Indies.

Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, returned to lead India in the T20I series after resting out of the ODI series which India won 3-0 under Shikhar Dhawan. This was the first time that an Indian team whitewashed the West Indies in the West Indies.

Rohit Sharma, who took over as India's all-formats captain earlier in the year after Virat Kohli stepped down as Test skipper, will look to get back to form and rhythm after a start-stop phase. After recovering from Covid-19, Rohit hit an entertaining half-century in the first ODI against England but he is still far from his destructive form in the T20 format.

Rohit jointly holds the record for the fastest hundred in T20 Internationals. In December 2017, Rohit had hit a 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka to go level with David Miller of South Africa, who had also hit a 35-ball hundred in a T20I against Bangladesh just two months earlier.
