Rescue and disaster management drill conducted at Harangi reservoir

Drill at Harangi Reservoir focuses on disaster rescue operations, involving various departments, emphasizing citizen safety and coordination among authorities.

A drill was conducted at the Harangi Reservoir near Kushalnagar on Thursday focusing on rescue operations related to the protection of people, livestock, and property in the event of any kind of disaster.

Carried out to assess the level of preparations by the Kodagu district administration and the District Disaster Management Authority, it was held following the directives of the Central and State governments, consequent to the tensions with Pakistan.

The drill entailed participation by the police, the department of health and family welfare, fire services, the Home Guards, the revenue department, etc. More than 200 personnel took part in the exercise held to assess their level of preparation to handle any disaster.

The authorities focused on key aspects like rescuing and safeguarding the citizens, providing first aid, ensuring protection of the rescue personnel, etc.

Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja, who addressed the participants, said protecting people, livestock, and property is of utmost importance in any disaster and called for coordinated efforts among the various departments. Complying with the government’s Standard Operating Procedures in facing disasters is essential, he added.

Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan remarked that in the event of disasters, it was important that rescue personnel protect others but they should not ignore their own safety. Remaining calm under any situation was imperative, he said adding that it would help in effective rescue operations.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Suraj, district disaster management expert Ananya Vasudev, and others were present.
