Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker suggests removing Conocarpus trees due to concerns over they exhaling carbon dioxide
In an interesting development, Legislative Assembly Speaker G. Prasad Kumar has suggested that the Telangana government take steps to remove Conocarpus trees planted in large numbers on the main thoroughfares and highways.
The Speaker referred to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government’s assertion on planting over 200 crore saplings as part of the Harita Haaram programme and said Conocarpus saplings constituted significant chunk of this programme. “Conocarpus trees are said to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. I suggest the Government to remove these plants,” he said.
Mr. Prasad Kumar made the remarks when BRS member Vemula Prashanth Reddy elaborated about the Harita Haaram programme while participating in the discussion on demands for grants in the legislative assembly on Tuesday (March 25, 2025).
