In a rematch of the 2018 Champions League final, Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in a hard-fought 2022 final at the Stade de France in Paris on May 29 (IST).

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said that French forward Kylian Mbappe is "already forgotten" as the Spanish club clinched their record-extending 14th Champions League crown.

In a rematch of the 2018 final, Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in a hard-fought 2022 final at the Stade de France in Paris on May 29 (IST).

"Real Madrid will always continue to work on having the best players, but today Mbappe is already forgotten," Perez was quoted as saying. "Nothing has happened, Real Madrid have had a perfect season and that is a forgotten issue, there is only a Real Madrid party."

There were reports that Mbappe would join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expired at the end of the season with Paris Saint-Germain. However, the member of the 2018 World Cup-winning team decided against it and extended his stay at the French club. On May 23, PSG in a statement confirmed Mbappe's contract extension till 2025 with the club.

Mbappe's decision to stay at PSG has triggered a war of words between the parties involved after LaLiga president Javier Tebas stated they would file a complaint against Paris Saint-Germain to UEFA as the deal "attacked the economic stability" of the European game.

Mbappe burst onto the scene as a teenager. Paris Saint-Germain signed him from Monaco in 2017 in a deal that was reported to be about 180 million euros. The transfer made him the world's second-most expensive signing after Brazilian forward Neymar, who moved from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros.
