RCMP suspect arson after 4 fires in Happy Valley-Goose Bay
CBC
The RCMP are asking for the public's help as they investigate four structure fires overnight Friday in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
In a media release, the RCMP say they were called before midnight to assist firefighters responding to a structure fire on Palliser Crescent.
"The building was completely lost to the flames, including the contents," the RCMP says.
At 3:10 a.m., police found a residence on Cabot Street engulfed in flames, according to the release.
Shortly after 5 a.m., police received a report of a fire at an abandoned building near Northmart on Hamilton River Road.
Police responded to a fourth fire, this one at an office building, about an hour later.
The RCMP say there are no injuries related to the fires and all of the buildings were uninhabited.
But they say in the release that evidence suggests the fires were deliberately set.
Police are asking residents to review video surveillance footage from last night for suspicious activity in the areas of Palliser Crescent, Oliver Drive, Cabot Street, Hamilton River Road and Corte Real road.
Police ask that any footage or information that may assist the investigation be shared with the Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP.
The town understands that residents are on edge.
"We recognize the concern these incidents have caused and want to reassure residents that we are working closely with law enforcement to ensure public safety," a release from the town states.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay Mayor Bert Pomeroy says in the release he is grateful for the efforts of the RCMP and the fire department.
“We encourage residents to remain vigilant and to share any relevant footage or information with the RCMP," Pomeroy says.
