RCB vs RR: Virat Kohli set to open the batting with Faf du Plessis

RCB vs RR: Virat Kohli set to open the batting with Faf du Plessis

Virat Kohli has averaged only 17 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli is set to open the batting with Faf du Plessis in the match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday, April 26 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. Prior to the game, the official Twitter handle of the Bangalore-based franchise put forth the development surrounding the 33-year-old.

Current RCB skipper du Plessis also updated on his teammate during the toss. The Challengers have benched left-hander Anuj Rawat for the game and roped in Rajat Patidar. Rawat opened the batting with his captain from the very first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. But the Delhi-born Kohli’s poor run of form of late has led the management to make a few changes in their lineup.

“We will bowl first. There will be a bit in it early on and we'll look to exploit it tonight. You have to go past it (68), it's just about getting to the playoffs, it's not how you get there. One change for us - Rajat comes in for Anuj Rawat with Virat going to the top. We want him to get going right at the top, want to see the real Virat play. This is a new game, new day and we'll have to play well,” du Plessis said.

Kohli has been a pale shadow of his glorious self, having scored only 119 runs from eight matches in IPL 2022 at an average of 17 with a top score of 48 against the Mumbai Indians (MI). In RCB’s previous two games, he fetched golden ducks, depicting his tough times.

However, RCB Director of Cricket, Mike Hesson, backed Kohli, also the all-time leading run-scorer in the history of the IPL, to come good in the latter half of the tournament.
