Rays deal away one-time prized Yankees prospect Everson Pereira months after trading for him
NY Post
The Rays’ Everson Pereira experiment didn’t last long.
Three months after acquiring the outfielder from the Yankees, Tampa Bay traded Pereira to the White Sox on Tuesday in a multi-player deal.
The White Sox sent right-handers Yoendrys Gómez and Steven Wilson to the Rays for Pereira and minor league infielder Tanner Murray.
The Yankees signed Pereira in 2017 as an international free agent and jumped from rookie ball to Triple-A between 2021-2023.
The 24-year-old Pereira was once considered one of the jewels of the Yankees farm system — and among baseball’s top prospects. He hit .300 with 18 homers and 64 RBIs over two minor league stops in 2023.
But Pereira hasn’t been able to find any success in the majors. He played in 27 games with the Yankees in 2023, batting .151 (14 for 93) with no homers and 10 RBIs. He was traded to Tampa Bay on July 31 for infielder José Caballero, who filled in well for the Yankees down the stretch with Anthony Volpe struggling and dealing with a shoulder issue.

Suddenly, someone had hit a rewind button and everyone had been transported back seven months. It was early spring instead of late fall, it was broiling hot outside the arena walls and not freezing cold. Everyone was back at TD Garden. There were 19,156 frenzied fans on their feet begging for blood, poised for the kill.
