Ravindra Jadeja knew last season he would lead in IPL 2022, he had enough time to prepare: MS Dhoni

IPL 2022, SRH vs CSK: After guiding Chennai Super Kings to their 3rd win of the season, MS Dhoni opened up on his decision to hand over CSK's captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja before the start of the season and then Jadeja's stepping down from the role after 6 defeats.

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni opened up on his return to CSK's captaincy after guiding his side to a 13-run win over SunRisers Hyderabad in the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Pune on Sunday.

Dhoni said that Jadeja knew last season that he would be captaining CSK in IPL 2022. Dhoni further added that for the first two games, he oversaw Jadeja's and, after that, he insisted that the all-rounder takes his own decisions and responsibility for them.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway's brilliant batting performance was well complemented by a four-wicket haul from Mukesh Choudhary as Chennai Super Kings notched up a 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on MS Dhoni's return as a captain.

Gaikwad (99 off 57 balls) and Conway (85 not out off 55) put SRH's attack to the sword, notching up a scintillating 182-run partnership, the highest opening stand of the season, as CSK posted an imposing 202 for two after being invited to bat.

In reply, SRH fell short, reaching 189 for 6 in 20 overs despite late heroics from Nicholas Pooran (64 not out) and a 47-run innings by skipper Kane Williamson at the top.

"I think it was a good score to defend. It's one of that coincidences where we got off to a good start and forced the bowlers to bowl the areas where we wanted to hit. The kind of target we got was a very good one. The phase that really worked for us was where the spinners were bowling after 6 overs," MS Dhoni said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"We have had quite a few good batting performances, we have given couple of overs that went for 25-26 runs, and even when you score 200, it really comes down to 175-180 in 19 overs. It's important to try something different as a bowler.," Dhoni added.
