Rare broods of cicadas to arrive soon: When to expect them and what it means for you

A rare phenomenon of periodical cicadas will arrive this spring in the U.S. The often loud insects will mainly appear at night when soil is around 64 degrees Fahrenheit.
The two broods - one concentrated in U.S. Midwestern states and the other in the South and Midwest, with a small area of overlap in Illinois - emerge together only once every 221 years.
