Rajasthan Regals clinched the inaugural 72 The League golf title with a 12-3 victory over UP Prometheans.
Rajasthan Regals dominated the proceeding to be crowned champion of the inaugural DP World PGTI’s 72 The League with a 12-3 win over table-topper UP Prometheans in the finals at the Qutab Golf Course on Friday.
Making the final as the second-placed team, Rajasthan avenged their league-stage defeat to become the first winner of India’s first franchise-based league in the sport and took home the ₹ One crore prize money. UP got ₹50 lakh.
The UP team put up unbeaten captain Shaurya Bhattacharya and Arjun Prasad in the singles but both faltered, going down to Jairaj Singh Sandhu and Akshay Sharma respectively. With only one win required in the remaining three matches, Rajasthan sealed the deal through its foursome pairing of Aryaman Mohan and Yuvraj Singh, who beat Joshua Seale and Arjun Sharma on the 18th hole.
The remaining two inconsequential fourball matches had Rajasthan captain Ajeetesh Sandhu, partnering Michele Ortolani, suffer his maiden loss of the tournament before S. Chikkarangappa and Dhruv Sheoran completed the proceedings with a win against Gaurav Pratap Singh and Pranav Mardikar.
The result: Final: Rajasthan Regals bt UP Prometheans 12-3 [Singles: Jairaj Singh Sandhu bt Shaurya Bhattacharya 4 & 3, Akshay Sharma bt Arjun Prasad 2 & 1; foursomes: Aryaman Mohan & Yuvraj Singh bt Joshua Seale & Arjun Sharma 1-up; fourballs: Michele Ortolani & Ajeetesh Sandhu lost to Abhinav Lohan & Manoj S 3 & 2, S.
