The MSNBC hosts had a laughter-filled handoff over the president's trade war and one particular emphasis of his.
Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell laughed each other silly Monday while mocking President Donald Trump’s obsession with dolls. (Watch the video below.)
Amid reports that Trump’s trade war with China could result in empty store shelves, the president declared that little girls might have to be happy with a few dolls instead of dozens and that children don’t require hundreds of pencils either.
“The idea that he thinks that, if you’re raising a kid right now in 2025 in the United States of America, the thing you’re most thinking about is pencils and dolls,” Maddow said. “That those are your real expenses that you’re worried about. ... What he thinks the family budget is based around is just a remarkable window into his mind.”
“The most charitable thing that can be said about that is that he’s a 20th-century guy,” O’Donnell shot back.
“Nobody needs to eat or get health care but what we have to worry about is our numbers of pencils and dolls,” Maddow cracked.
