QNAWashingtonDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has reaffirmed that Qatar will continue to work closely with the United Nations and its agencies to help address the immediate needs of the Yemeni people. In a tweet, the FM said, “During my meeting with @WFPChief today, I reaffirmed that #Qatar will continue to work closely with the @UN and its agencies to help address the immediate needs in Yemen.”Sheikh Mohammed met with Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme David Beasley in Washington.Cooperation relations between Qatar and the World Food Programme (WFP) were reviewed during the meeting. The Executive Director of the WFP thanked Qatar for allocating $100 million in support of the its efforts to ensure food security and avert famine in Yemen, as well as assist the urgent United Nations relief and humanitarian programmes to mitigate the exacerbation of the human tragedy there. On Wednesday, His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar allocated $100 million in humanitarian aid to support Yemenis through the efforts of the United Nations World Food Programme.In a tweet, the Government Communications Office (GCO) said Qatar is committed to supporting the Yemeni people in order to help them overcome their difficulties and alleviate the exacerbation of the human tragedy. Qatar provided Yemen close to $195 million from 2013 to 2020, to support development efforts. In 2018, Qatar provided $70 million to support adequate access to water and sanitation services, in cooperation with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). In 2019, Qatar granted $27 million to support the United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan for Yemen. Likewise in 2020, Qatar granted $2 million from Qatar Charity to the United Nations Refugee Agency to support internally displaced families in Yemen. In 2021, Qatar provided $100 million in humanitarian aid to support Yemenis through the efforts of the United Nations World Food Programme.
