QNAViennaThe State of Qatar has reaffirmed the importance of holding an international conference to discuss ways to regulate cybersecurity in international law, a call launched by the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the podium of the United Nations General Assembly’s 74th session. The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and international organisations in Vienna, HE Ambassador Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri, said in a speech during the 30th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, that the State of Qatar is one of the countries most interested in strengthening cybersecurity at the national and international levels. This year, it established the Qatar National Cybersecurity Agency and voted in favour of a United Nations resolution to draft a comprehensive international cybercrime convention. In his speech, His Excellency addressed the Global Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration. He said that during the five years of implementation, the projects of this programme were successful in developing mechanisms and approaches to the work of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, developing new tools in the fields of training and capacity development, and improving Member States’ readiness and effectiveness in dealing with transnational organised crime, drugs, corruption, and terrorism. The programme also established and expanded the United Nations Office’s partnerships and working relationships with many partners both within and outside the United Nations system, and it contributed to the strengthening of the concept of sustainability.Regarding the incorporation of sport into crime prevention and criminal justice strategies for youth, HE the Ambassador said that the Global Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration provided a unique model in this regard, and that the State of Qatar is interested in hosting major sporting events, including the 2022 World Cup, because of its belief in the power of sport to bring people together and building a culture of peace.
