Punjab police arrested a man for allegedly attempting sacrilege at the Kali Devi temple in Patiala. The accused was seen climbing on the threshold where the idol was kept.
Police in Punjab have arrested a man for allegedly attempting sacrilege at the Kali Devi temple in Patiala. The incident was captured on CCTV and a video of the same is now viral on social media.
The video shows the accused climbing on the threshold where the idol was kept. He can then be seen trying to get close to the idol of the deity inside the temple. A priest and other devotees present at the site catch hold of the accused before handing him over to the police.
Patiala Superintendent of Police (SP) Harpal Singh said that police will verify the alleged sacrilege incident and take action against the accused.
Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi strongly condemned the sacrilege attempt saying 'bad elements' are attempting to create mayhem by disturbing peace and harmony of the state.
Today around 2.30 p.m, a person arrived at Sri Kali Mata Mandir in Patiala and climbed on the threshold where the Idol of Sri Kali Mata Ji was installed. Following this he was caught and handed over to the police. (1/2)
