The Puducherry Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, P.R.N. Thirumurugan, has written to the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, seeking operation of freight trains on the new Karaikal-Peralam broadgauge line at night to avoid hardship to the public in view of closure of railway gates at the level-crossing during the day in Karaikal. The Minister suggested that the goods trains could be operated between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
