
Proclaimed offender tag against former Mumbai CP Param Bir Singh scrapped

The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Mumbai cancelled its order declaring senior IPS officer Param Bir Singh as an “absconding offender”.
The Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Mumbai's Esplanade cancelled its earlier order declaring senior IPS officer Param Bir Singh an “absconding offender” in an extortion case. The court passed the order after Singh personally appeared before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SB Bhajipale on Monday and sought withdrawal of the proclamation. The order was passed on Wednesday.
Special counsel Shekhar Jagtap, appearing for Mumbai Police, opposed the application that had been moved by Singh for cancellation of the proclamation order. Jagtap had argued that Singh had initially concealed himself from investigation and till date he did not disclose his whereabouts even in the present application. His application for withdrawal of proclamation had also not been signed either by himself or by his lawyer, which indicated his “callous nature” towards the proceedings.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
