Pro-Trump Mayor Walks Back Police Department's Idea For Arabic Patch After MAGA Throws Fit

The proposed optional patch was meant to represent “unity” and “respect” among the community, which includes a large Arab American population.
Officials in a Michigan city with a large Arab population backtracked after proposing an optional police officer patch with both English and Arabic, following massive backlash from MAGA conservatives.
“By incorporating Arabic script alongside English, this patch represents unity, respect, and our shared commitment to service,” the Dearborn Heights Police Department wrote earlier this week in a now-deleted Facebook post earlier that was reviewed by local news outlet KATU.
The optional patch was designed to “reflect and honor the diversity” of Dearborn Heights, “especially the many residents of Arabic descent,” the deleted post read.
Dearborn Heights, situated close to the majority-Arab city of Dearborn, has a population of approximately 61,000 residents, 39% of whom are of Arab descent.
The police department had praised the officer who designed the patch, commending her ”creativity and dedication in helping the department better represent the people we serve.”
