Premier League: Erik Ten Hag in pole position to become next Manchester United manager

Premier League: Erik Ten Hag in pole position to become next Manchester United manager

India Today

Manchester United are in search for a new manager as Ralf Rangnick's tenure as interim manager will come to an end this summer, and are reportedly closing in on Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag.

Manchester United are looking to rebuild their club after a few disappointing seasons in order to get back to being one of the best clubs in Europe. They appointed Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season as a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who was sacked in November last year.

Since Rangnick's term will end this summer, the Red Devils are in search of a new coach to lead them. PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino was rumored to sit in the Old Trafford dugout for a long time, but Sky Sports reported that AFC Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag is in pole position to sign for Manchester United.

Ten Hag will become the 5th permanent manager of Man United after the club bid farewell to Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013. Manchester United will find it difficult to qualify for the Champions League next season, since they're on their worst run since 2019, winning just one of their last seven games in all competitions.

The Red Devils are currently sitting in 7th place in the Premier League table, with 51 points, 6 behind fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur, who have turned a new leaf. Moreover, North Londoners Arsenal and Spurs have games in hand over Man United.

The 52-year-old will finish the season with Ajax, leading them to a potential Eredivisie title as the club currently sits 4 points above PSV Eindhoven at the top of the table, and then join the Red Devils this summer. Ten Hag has worked with current Man City manager Pep Guardiola during his time at Bayern Munich, when the Dutchman was the in-charge of the youth side.

Ten Hag is from the school of Johan Cruyff and will come with a philosophy in place of playing high-pressing, possession-based, and modern-day attacking football that the fans enjoy watching. But since United are in for a rebuild, it will take time for his ideas to bear fruit, with the right set of players in place, and a match-winning squad.

Players like Jesse Lingard, and Paul Pogba are out of contract this summer, with signs of renewal. Furthermore, Cristiano Ronaldo's future is in the air as well, with Marcus Rashford's future coming into question after a recent dip in form. There are a lot of changes the club will go through this summer, with Ten Hag having to make a lot of tough decisions.
