Pregnant woman, her mother die after roof of house collapses in TN's Thoothukudi

The roof of a house collapsed in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi district, killing a pregnant woman and her mother. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for a post-mortem examination and a further investigation is underway.
In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman and her mother died when the roof of their house collapsed in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as M Kaliammal and Karthika. Last week, Karthika was brought to her parents' house after she became pregnant.
Karthika was sleeping with her mother Kaliyammal in a room when the roof of the building collapsed at 4 am on Tuesday morning.
Karthika’s father, Muthuraman, escaped miraculously but Kaliyammal and Karthika were killed by the fallen debris.
He was taken out of the debris of the house with the help of police and personnel from the fire and rescue services department.
Their bodies were removed after several hours of struggle by rescue workers and were taken to Thoothukudi Government hospital for autopsy.
