Mangaluru-Karkala highway closed for a month for repairs; traffic diversions announced for affected routes.
The Mangaluru City Traffic Police have announced temporary closure of Mangaluru-Solapur National Highway 169 between Ganjimutt and Yedapadavu to facilitate widening of the Bikarnakatte-Sanur stretch of the highway into four lanes, and to restore the damaged existing highway near Yedapadavu.
In a notification on February 10, City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, who is also the additional District Magistrate, said that vehicles plying between Mangaluru and Moodbidri or Karkala would have to operate on diverted routes during the period.
The highway would remain closed between Muchhur Cross from Ganjimutt-end and Daddi Cross from Yedapadavu-end. This portion developed cracks and was on the verge of collapse as the NHAI was straightening the highway by cutting the Yedapadavu hill.

Only route buses and local vehicles operating between Mangaluru and Moodbidri could take the diverted route of Daddi Cross, Pumar Padavu Cross, Manjanakatte Cross, Arjuna Kodi, Eshwara Katte Cross and Muchhur Cross.
Trucks and other heavy goods vehicles have to move via Vidyagiri Cross, Mulki Junction and Surathkal on both the directions.
